In the middle of November we had a Crusader feast for all of Albion's
Populace and also for those who dwelt in far off lands. The food was
cooked by Matilda de Borg and was of the highest quality so that everyone
appeared to eat far more than they could actually hold!!!
The entertainment was provided by Hrolf retelling a true epic about brave
Norse warriors and a cunning Thrall. Also, a play was performed telling
the entire feast hall about the tale of a dragon slaying for the hand of a
princess. A Saxon lord sang a grand song that hushed the entire hall and
also Lady Anne Collet of Carshalton sang to the Lady Albion of the
loneliness of a lady whose Knight had left her to go on Crusade. Sir
Gunnar replied to this with the Crusader's Lament, which tells of the
sorrow of a knight on leaving his lady.
Hrothgar Bertramsson Goatfriend, was kept under the watchful guard of Sir
Hrolf Arnorsson, Sir Gunnar Tormundsson, Rhodri of Flint and Ieuan ap
Arthur ap Ardur and diuerse others, and thus our beloved flocks were kept
secure, and peace was maintained in the Realm as he never managed to give
us the slip for too long......
Ieuan and Rhodri were sworn in as squires to the noble knights Sir Hrolf
and Sir Gunnar and later, along with Sir Aethelwulf Draca, Lady Anne, Mark
of Norwich, the chivalry there present and a Saxon Holy man who wished to
ensure those Crusading remained vigilant in the One True Faith, they swore
a great oath to crusade to the South Side where the Holy land lies and
also to journey to the World's End in the name of the One True Faith.
Our great Dance Master Sir Aethelwulf surpassed all expectations with the
dancing that nearly everyone participated in. The revelry was much
enhanced by the music of Arinbjorn along with much quaffing of ale that
was eagerly mopped up afterwards.
