Educational Visits to Schools

demonstration of costumes, armour and weapons
Educational displays are available for a reduced rate of £50, subject to volunteers being available. For schools outside Edinburgh we also ask that travel expenses are paid. The content is particularly aimed at Primary years 3 to 6 when a Vikings project is part of the National Curriculum, although other age groups are possible.
A typical display would consist of a combat demonstration with a short talk on costumes, weapons and armour. A playground or sports hall would be a suitable venue for this - there needs to be enough space for the children to be kept at least ten feet back from the area in which fighting is taking place.
We can also do short talks (approx 30 to 45 minutes) for groups of up to 25 children at a time, showing replicas of Viking Age objects and asking the children to guess what they are and how they are used.

Lothene has done educational displays for Bruntsfield Primary School, Sciennes Primary School, Cargilfield School, Edinburgh Young Archaeologists, Bellyeoman Primary School (Dunfermline), Yarrow Primary School (Borders), St Pauls Primary School (Dunfermline), Loretto School (Musselburgh), McLean School (Dunfermline) and Barclay Church Playgroup.
It has also provided displays for fund raising events such as Buckstone Fete, Holy Corner Playgroup Christmas Fayre and Barclay Playgroup Coffee Morning.
