Full Court Report

by Margarete von Helfenstein

On the eve of the feast of St. Leonard the Year Seven Full Court of the Realm of Perfidious Albion took place in the Cairngorm Room at the Pleasance. The ordinarily humble room was quickly transformed into a courtly chamber by Albion's noble banner, a red carpet and the beautiful (albeit unfinished) tapestry depicting the Populace of the Realm. The customary procession of the Lady Albion, Brisena de Leon, and her Court to their seats was followed by the minutes of the last Court. These were speedily dealt with, as the Clerk wasn't able to read his handwriting anymore, which was taken to mean that they were no longer relevant.

Attention then turned to the Councillors' reports which did throw a very favorable light on the activities of the past year. During the reports the Councillors were trying very hard to avoid a certain phrase which had fallen into disfavour due to excessive use in previous Courts. Following the reports Lady Julian Percy, Keeper of the Wardrobe of the Realm was most deservedly awarded The Order of the Golden Spydere and also the Order of the White Sparrow in recognition of her steadfast and long-standing service to the Realm.

The traditional reading of the Charter did not take too long, especially as there were no amendments or alterations proposed at this Court. The Council then resigned, and Lady Brisena addressed the Populace for a last time, stating that she had to return to her native Leon to assist her mother who had fallen ill.

The tedious process of electing a new Council was alleviated a little by the fact that there was only one candidate for each post, making the votes almost unanimous (not counting a few insignificant abstentions). The new Albion, Lady Julian Percy, then received oaths of fealty from members of both the new Council and the Populace, and in closing the Herald (an office admirably performed by Arinnbjorn) read a letter from Alys the Mad who deeply regretted her absence, but sent a compilation of music as a token of her esteem.

No more Court business being at hand, the Council and Populace alike proceeded to one of the nearby taverns to celebrate the successful completion of the eighth Full Court of the Realm of Perfidious Albion.
